Inside Fūga · Streetwear Deeper into Streetwear

Y2K tops are garments born in the late 90s and early 2000s between pop, R&B, and skate culture — cropped, shiny, with mesh inserts or butterfly prints. Today a generation wears them who never lived through that era, but instinctively understands its codes.

Which cuts define Y2K tops.

Crop tops with spaghetti straps, mesh long sleeves, satin tube tops, halterneck cuts, and open-collar shirts. The shared principle: the body shows, it does not hide. Materials shift between synthetic sheen and light cotton. Colors range from baby pink through metallic silver to neon green — restraint has no place in this vocabulary.

Layering by Y2K logic.

Low-rise below — that was law then and works today the same way. Y2K jeans with deep waistband or wide Y2K pants with cargo pockets set contrast against the tight top. Add platforms, chunky sneakers, or kitten heels. Accessories can be loud — hair clips, chokers, tinted sunglasses.

Y2K Tops at Fūga.

The Fūga Y2K Collection gathers tops that sit between vintage reference and wearable comfort today. Not costume, not cosplay — pieces for people who wear the look as their own. The Y2K Fashion Guide frames the aesthetic, from butterfly to cyber.

Korean fashion demands finesse.

What are typical Y2K tops called?

Crop tops, tube tops, mesh tops, halterneck tops, and satin camisoles. Common denominator: short cuts, shiny or sheer fabrics, and bold colors or prints.

Why is Y2K fashion so popular with Gen Z?

The early 2000s aesthetic stands for unbridled optimism and individuality. Gen Z sees in it a counter to minimalist trends — loud, colorful, unapologetic. Social media accelerates the cycle.

What does Y2K mean for tops specifically?

Y2K stands for Year 2000 and designates fashion from roughly 1998 to 2004. For tops that means: short cuts, low waistlines, bare skin, synthetic materials, and colors that looked good on-screen in that era.

Opium.

Opium comes out of the gap between Berghain wardrobe and Streetwear cut. We read the same material through our lens.

Techwear.

Techwear started here as a translation of Tokyo reduction into fabric. Errolson Hugh, Acronym, GORE-TEX, ergonomic cuts — and parallel to that, Japanese discipline: nothing superfluous, all function.

Streetwear.

Streetwear is the root — the first designs out of Tokyo 2015 were Anime prints, Japanese characters, Harajuku graphics. Everything else grew from that, but the line keeps running.

Fūga

風雅

Fūga isn't for everyone.

Berlin Plattenbau origins, Asia-inspired. Creative, but never fully fitting into the system. Tokyo 2015 as the starting point — six niche phases since then.

Today: Berlin · Shanghai · Tokyo · Poznań. We know our designers by name. Limited drops, no restocks.

We aren't dropouts. We know the system — went through training, worked, kept building. Both sides hold.
